Frontiers and Pioneers

America is turning 250 years old this year! Celebrate by taking a step back in time to the American Frontier. Learn more about the history of America, and the Pioneers of Peoria. Sip some Tea or Coffee from our Boston Tea Party Nook, visit with Local Chapters of Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution. Enjoy Americana and Jail House photo ops, and at 12:00 PM enjoy a "Modern Navajo Cookbook" presentation with samples.

FanVerse Art and Poetry Contest

Show off your love of fandoms in the FanVerse Art and Poetry Contest for a chance to win a prize! Open to kids, teens, and adult participants may submit an original fan art piece or a science-fiction–inspired haiku featuring favorite fandoms and their connection to books or reading. Entry forms can be picked up at the front desk or found on our website. Entries will be displayed at Peoria Public Library, with winners announced on Feb. 21st. For ages 8 and up. All entries due at the Peoria Main Library by Feb. 14.

WHAM Presents: What's Your Story?

Do you have a story to tell? Memoir, fiction, or non-fiction — this interactive class will help you bring your words to life. Each session includes guided writing exercises and optional opportunities to share your work in class or on stage. This workshop is safe and fun place to meet new people, improve writing skills, get more comfortable with public speaking and finding your own voice. This program is funded by Peoria Arts Grant. Whether you come once or attend all ten sessions, you’ll leave with stories in hand—and if you stick with it, you may even be on your way to a book! Supplies provided. Funded by Peoria Arts Grants. For ages 16 and up.

Drumming for Wellness

Join us for Drumming for Wellness, a free 12-week community drumming series hosted by Drums Are Life LLC! The program will be led by Folade, a Remo Drums Trained HealthRHYTHMS® Facilitator. This uplifting, multigenerational program uses rhythm to support emotional well-being, physical health, creativity, and community connection. Open to participants of all ages and abilities—including older adults, youth, and neurodivergent individuals—each 60-minute session blends rhythmic instruction, group drumming, mindful movement, and reflection in a supportive, inclusive environment. Registration is required.

Read It & Eat It Cookbook Club

Join us at our book club for foodies! Once a month, find a recipe in a cookbook that matches our theme, cook it up, and bring it to the group to share! Once you have chosen your dish to bring, contact Adam Poage by email at Adam.Poage@peoriaaz.gov to let him know what recipe you will be bringing so we don’t have a lot of duplication in the dishes we will sample on meeting night. At the meeting, we discuss what we liked/disliked about the cookbooks while we eat.

  • Feb. 11 - Sweet Vs. Savory - Any Sweet or Savory Dish. “Are you sweet on dessert or salty about snacks?”
  • Mar. 11 - Time for Soup! Make any type of soup. “We’re here for the stew-pendous entries!”

  • Monday, Feb. 2, @ 2 p.m. - Email Basics: earn how to send, reply, and forward emails. Also, learn how to attach files to emails and to use your contact list.
     
  • Monday, Feb. 23, @ 2 p.m. - Mobile Devices: This introductory class will remove some of the mystery many of us experience when using new smart phones and tablets.
     
  • Monday, Mar. 2, @ 2 p.m. - Windows: This introductory class will walk you through the basics of using the Windows OS.

  • Thursday, Feb. 26, @ 4 p.m. - Interaction with A.I.: Join us as we review how to use ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Microsoft Co-Pilot and other Gereative AI websites.
     
  • Thursday, Mar. 26, @ 4 p.m. - Design with A.I.:This beginner-friendly AI class invites adults to explore artistic expression through music, graphics, simple coding, and organizational tools in a relaxed, creative environment. The focus is on fun, curiosity, and experimentation, using AI to organize ideas, play with code, and create without pressure.

How to Avoid the Top Five Medicare Mistakes

This educational seminar will bring clarity to the fundamentals of Medicare, and enable you to make informed decisions. The seminar is helpful for people that are new to Medicare, as well as existing Medicare card holders. This program is presented by Allison and Adam Lubenow, owners of Senior Advisors. Registration is not required.

Topics covered include when to enroll in Medicare and how to evaluate this decision, how to ensure you aren't overpaying for healthcare and medication, the top five Medicare mistakes we encounter and how to prevent making these mistakes, the parts of Medicare, comparing Advantage Plans to Supplement Plans (Medigap), how to choose the best drug card (Part D) for your individual needs, and how to choose your insurance carrier.

Peoria Public Libraries in partnership with Driving-Tests.org, a company dedicated to driver safety and education, offers free Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) practice tests to library patrons. The service includes free tests specifically based on the state’s DMV materials. It is the only site of its kind to include accessibility tools that let users hear selections read aloud, make them into MP3s, translate pages into other languages, magnify text, and mask portions of the screen for greater visibility on the practice tests.
