The Peoria Public Library now offers Mobile Beacon 4G hotspots. Internet service is provided on T-Mobile's 4G LTE network allowing library patrons access to high-speed internet service anywhere a cell phone signal can be received. Up to 10 devices can be connected. Please note that if T-Mobile coverage is not available, the devices will not work effectively. Visit the Sprint website to view their coverage map.
How It Works
How Can I Borrow a Hotspot?
WiFi Hotspot Policy and Requirements
- You must be a Peoria Public Library card holder (library card needs to be in good standing with a current address on file and may not have fees at $10.00 or more).
- You must be 18 years or older and present a valid I.D. with birth date listed to checkout a device (name on I.D. must match name on library card).
- The library is not responsible for any liabilities, damage or expense resulting from use or misuse of the
device, connection of the device to other electronic devices or any loss of data resulting from use of device.
- Any use of the device for illegal purposes, unauthorized copying of copyright-protected material in any format or transmission of threatening, harassing, defamatory or obscene materials is strictly prohibited.
- Internet filtering is provided through CIPA (Children's Internet Protection Act) and borrowers are responsible for monitoring what their children/other users access via the hotspot. Visit the CIPA website for more information..
- WiFi hotspots are for use in the continental U.S. only, where Sprint 4G LTE overage is available (devices are not equipped to roam and are not covered in Extended LTE, LTE Roaming and Off-network Roaming areas).
- Library staff are unable to provide technical assistance with the hotspots. Please refer to the Quick Start guides or
For the T9 devices: Visit the T-Mobile T9 mobile hotspot user guide.
For the T10 devices: Visit the T-Mobile T10 mobile hotspot user guide.
- Supported Web browsers for the hotspot are: Microsoft Internet Explorer (8.0 or later), Mozilla Firefox (3.1 or later), Safari (5.0 or later), Google Chrome (36.0 or later).
- The hotspot should be kept in a temperature controlled environment. Please do not leave it in your car!
- Your internet usage is not tracked by the library or the service provider. The library does not provide patron information to the service provider. The only data about the hotspot program that the library collects is the total amount of data transmitted and received by each device during a billing cycle.
Loan Rules and Duration
- Hotspots are available for checkout at the Circulation desk.
- Hotspots may be checked out for 3 weeks and can be renewed as long as there are no other patron holds.
- Hotspots may be placed on a hold through the Online Catalog.
- Overdue hotspots that are not returned will have Internet access deactivated and a replacement fee of $130 will be charged.
- Hotspots may not be returned in the book return, they must be returned to the circulation desk (Hotspots must be returned to the library that it was checked out at).
- Borrowers are limited to one hotspot checkout per household.
- Patrons are responsible for costs associated with loss or damage of the mobile hotspot and/or peripherals.
- Patron must fill out a Checkout Agreement form at the time of checkout as well as a User Survey when hotspot is returned.
