Summer Teen Volunteer Program!

Looking for job experience, new skills, and a chance to give back? Join the Peoria Main Library’s Summer Teen Volunteer Program! This year, we’re focusing on mentorship—helping teens build confidence, gain responsibility, and learn from us while they support the library.

Applications are online only this year and are due by Apr. 19. In addition, we’re introducing Upskill Days to help teens gain valuable workplace skills while volunteering at the library! For Teens 13-17 years old who are available to volunteer twice a week from June 2 – July 31. Limited spots available.

Book Buddies

Library: Peoria Main Library

Does your child need help reading? Book Buddies is a program where we pair your child with a teen volunteer to help gain confidence while reading aloud. This program is suited for students in grades K-5.

  • 3rd quarter sessions will be held on Wednesdays, Jan. 29 - Mar. 12, from 4 p.m. - 5 p.m. Registration closed.
     
  • 4th quarter sessions will be held on Wednesdays, Mar. 26 - May. 7, from 4 p.m. - 5 p.m.

Poetry Contest

Library: Peoria Main & Sunrise Mountain Libraries

Release your inner bard and enter our poetry contest for a chance to win a prize and share your work on-stage! Visit your local Peoria Public Library or access the entry form linked below for contest rules and to submit your poem. Entries may be turned in starting March 1, with all entries due by April 1. For age groups 8-12, 13-17, and 18+.

Announcement: Crafternooners has been cancelled for the month of May to due teen summer volunteer training. It will return for its normally schedule day and time in June. Please call Sunrise Mountain Library at (623) 773-8650 with any questions.

Join us each month after school on the 4th Wednesday to get crafty with fun projects. Registration not required.

WHAM Teen Art Night

Come visit us every month to learn and create many forms of art with WHAM (What's Happening Art Movement), thanks to Peoria’s Arts Grant Program! For ages 12 - 17. Space is limited and registration is required.

Playback Theatre - Emerging Stories

Some stories cannot just be told. They must be experienced… Playback Arizona provides innovative, improvisational performances in which members of the audience tell true stories from their lives and then watch the stories be brought to artistic life by the ensemble of actors and musicians. Weaving improvised scenes with music, movement, and metaphor, Playback Theatre performances reflect the diversity of human experience and celebrate our common humanity. Every performance is different, and any true story from your life is welcome — or just sit back and enjoy others’ stories!

Driving Tests and Materials

Library: Peoria Main & Sunrise Mountain Libraries

Peoria Public Libraries in partnership with Driving-Tests.org, a company dedicated to driver safety and education, offers free Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) practice tests to library patrons. The service includes free tests specifically based on the state’s DMV materials. It is the only site of its kind to include accessibility tools that let users hear selections read aloud, make them into MP3s, translate pages into other languages, magnify text, and mask portions of the screen for greater visibility on the practice tests.
