Frontiers and Pioneers

Library: Peoria Main Library

America is turning 250 years old this year! Celebrate by taking a step back in time to the American Frontier. Learn more about the history of America, and the Pioneers of Peoria. Sip some Tea or Coffee from our Boston Tea Party Nook, visit with Local Chapters of Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution. Enjoy Americana and Jail House photo ops, and at 12:00 PM enjoy a "Modern Navajo Cookbook" presentation with samples.

This program is supported by the Arizona State Library, Archives & Public Records, a division of the Secretary of State, with federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

LibraryCon: For the Love of Fandom

Library: Peoria Main Library

Time: 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Celebrate your love of fandom at LibraryCon, a free, all-ages event on Saturday, February 14 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Peoria Main Library. Enjoy cosplay, contests, crafts, games, vendors, and a live musical performance featuring music inspired by favorite fandoms. Come dressed as your favorite character or just come ready to have fun!

FanVerse Art and Poetry Contest

Library: Peoria Main Library
Date: Jan. 14 - Feb. 14

Show off your love of fandoms in the FanVerse Art and Poetry Contest for a chance to win a prize! Open to kids, teens, and adult participants may submit an original fan art piece or a science-fiction–inspired haiku featuring favorite fandoms and their connection to books or reading. Entry forms can be picked up at the front desk or found on our website. Entries will be displayed at Peoria Public Library, with winners announced on Feb. 21st. For ages 8 and up. All entries due at the Peoria Main Library by Feb. 14.

Book Buddies

Library: Peoria Main Library

Teens, look for an opportunity to get volunteer hours? Become a Book Buddy and earn service hours for school, honor society, and youth organization requirements. As a bonus, they'll also develop important real-world skills like communication, patience, and leadership, which are great for their resume and college applications.   • The Book Buddies registration has closed for the 3rd quarter sessions.
  • 4th quarter sessions will be held on Wednesdays, Apr. 8 - May 6, from 4 p.m. - 5 p.m.

Dungeons & Dragons

Date: 1st Wednesday of the month: Feb. 4, Mar.4 & Apr. 1
Time: 5 p.m. - 7 p.m.

Play Dungeons & Dragons at the Peoria Main Library the first Thursday of every month from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. Pre-generated characters and dice are provided. For ages 13 and up. Registration is required.

Fizz & Films

Grab your friends and family every 1st Thursday of the month and head to the library for our monthly movie night! Enjoy free popcorn and mix up your perfect drink at our DIY Soda Bar. Sign-up is preferred, but drop-ins are welcome.  Ages 13+.

WHAM Presents: What's Your Story?

Library: Peoria Main Library
Date: 1st & 3rd Saturdays of the month: Feb. 7 & 21
Time: 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Do you have a story to tell? Memoir, fiction, or non-fiction — this interactive class will help you bring your words to life. Each session includes guided writing exercises and optional opportunities to share your work in class or on stage. This workshop is safe and fun place to meet new people, improve writing skills, get more comfortable with public speaking and finding your own voice. This program is funded by Peoria Arts Grant. Whether you come once or attend all ten sessions, you’ll leave with stories in hand—and if you stick with it, you may even be on your way to a book! Supplies provided. Funded by Peoria Arts Grants. For ages 16 and up.

PrintCraft Badge

Join us for a creative introduction to 3D printing at the library! Decorate a 3-D printed LibraryCon badge and learn how 3D printing works! Teens will get a hands-on look at the library's 3D printer and take home a custom-decorated emblem. No Experience needed. Registration encouraged.

Cozy Crafts

Get creative and unwind at Cozy Crafts, a monthly crafting program focused on cozy, hands-on projects like crochet, knitting, and embroidery. Beginners are welcome, and all supplies are provided. Meets every 3rd Tuesday from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. Space is limited. Capacity is limited to 15 participants aged 13+. Registration is encouraged.

Miniature Painting Meetup

Join us and learn how to paint mini figures for your Dungeons & Dragons adventures or figures for any occasion! 3D printed miniatures and paint are provided, with 1 model provided per person per session. For patrons 13 and up.

WHAM Teen Art Night

Teens, join us at the library and get creative with WHAM (What’s Happening Art Movement)! Each session features hands-on projects using a variety of mediums like bead crafting, oil pastels, paper quilling, collages, and CD mosaics. Come to one class or attend them all! Thanks to a Peoria Arts & Cultural Commission grant, WHAM is offering a free monthly art class for up to 15 teens. Registration is required.

Driving Tests and Materials

Library: Peoria Main & Sunrise Mountain Libraries

Peoria Public Libraries in partnership with Driving-Tests.org, a company dedicated to driver safety and education, offers free Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) practice tests to library patrons. The service includes free tests specifically based on the state’s DMV materials. It is the only site of its kind to include accessibility tools that let users hear selections read aloud, make them into MP3s, translate pages into other languages, magnify text, and mask portions of the screen for greater visibility on the practice tests.
