In-N-Out Burger’s “Cover to Cover” Reading Program

Library: Peoria Main & Sunrise Mountain Libraries
Date: Saturday, Mar. 1 - Saturday, Apr. 12

In-N-Out Burger’s “Cover to Cover” reading program always starts the first Saturday in March and runs for six weeks. Children ages 4 to 12-years-old may earn a good-for-one hamburger or cheeseburger Achievement Award card by reading five books or reading for 300 minutes. If a child is unable to read on their own, a parent or guardian may read to them. Each child may earn up to a maximum of three cards during the program, and cards are redeemable at all In-N-Out Burger locations. Reading Logs will be available at your local Peoria Public Library starting Mar. 2. Completed logs will be due back at the Library by Saturday, Apr. 12.

Book Buddies

Library: Peoria Main Library

Does your child need help reading? Book Buddies is a program where we pair your child with a teen volunteer to help gain confidence while reading aloud. This program is suited for students in grades K-5.

Citizen Science: Maricopa County presents - “Fight the Bite”

Maricopa County’s Vector Control Department offers a free STEM classroom presentation on Mosquitoes. Students will learn about the mosquito lifecycle, ways to prevent mosquitos from being around the home, and how to help “fight the bite”.

Family Board Game Night

Tired of battling over too much screen time? Wish you could just sit down and play a game IRL (In Real Life)? Then try out our monthly Family Board Game Night! Gather around to play classics like Candy Land, Uno, or Jenga. For the more adventurous, try out a family-Friendly strategy game like “Oregon Trail: The Card Game”, “Outrun the Bear” or “Exploding Kittens”. Come on and enjoy a game night every third Tuesday of the month at the Peoria Main Library.

Citizen Science: U of A presents - Rocks and Minerals: Properties and Uses

The University of Arizona's School of Mining and Mineral Resources presents "Rocks and Minerals, Properties and Uses". This presentation is geared for grades 4-12. Students will learn how to identify minerals, or practice using the skills they already have, with a set of minerals commonly used as ore minerals for the metals and materials we use to build the world around us.

The Flood Control District of Maricopa County offers a free STEM classroom presentation on Flood Safety at Peoria Libraries. This program will help students understand weather, monsoon storms, and the dangers of flooding specific to Maricopa County, complete with hands-on activities.

Learners will build a basic electronic circuit and be introduce to the usage of Tinkercad. For kids grades 4 - 8. Registration is required as is a parental consent form.

Brain Powers - Games & Puzzles Workshop

Brain Powers partners with libraries and community organizations to provide introduction to fun after-school social activities for students that develop/reinforce critical thinking, problem solving, depth of thought, situational awareness, & a range of other concepts, in order to achieve the best results when problem solving using applied tactics & techniques. Using in-person strategy/puzzle games, students learn through play. Our experienced & entertaining Instructors guide student learning through challenges for lifelong intellectual benefits! For kids aged 6-14. Registration is free, but required.

Sensory Adventures

Parents/guardians, looking for something for the kids to do after school in a nonjudgmental space? Families are invited to join us for various fun and interactive activities every Monday and Thursday starting at 3:30 p.m. All kinds of crafts, STEAM challenges, games, and activities will foster these students' creativity, exploration, and team working skills. All are welcome to these programs, including families with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other sensory needs. Activities will vary from session to session. Please call the library at (623) 773-7578 to find out which activity we will be doing that day.
The Peoria Public Libraries are IBCCES Certified Autism Centers.

Since not everyone thrives in loud, high-energy environments, an adapted room will be available in tandem to provide an inviting space for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other sensory needs.

PAWS 2 Read @ Your Peoria Libraries

PAWS 2 Read is an on-going program which allows children to read aloud to therapy dogs in order to improve reading skills. When children practice reading individually to trained therapy dogs (and their handlers) they become more confident readers, while having fun! After all, a dog will not correct them or make them feel awkward if they stumble.

Sensory Screenings

A movie theatre experience for all families, including children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other sensory needs. Sensory Friendly Screenings include brightened light levels, reduced sound volume and room for guest interaction.
