Frontiers and Pioneers

Library: Peoria Main Library

America is turning 250 years old this year! Celebrate by taking a step back in time to the American Frontier.  Learn more about the history of America, and the Pioneers of Peoria with hands-on activities. From Betsy Ross Sewing and Navajo Weaving crafts, to making Wanted Posters in the Jail House, to playing old-time Carnival games in the Courtyard there is something for everyone!  Enjoy a Ballet Folklorico performance at 10:30 AM - seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.  

This program is supported by the Arizona State Library, Archives & Public Records, a division of the Secretary of State, with federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

LibraryCon: For the Love of Fandom

Library: Peoria Main Library

Celebrate your love of fandom at LibraryCon, a free, all-ages event on Saturday, February 14 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Peoria Main Library. Enjoy cosplay, contests, crafts, games, vendors, and a live musical performance featuring music inspired by favorite fandoms. Come dressed as your favorite character or just come ready to have fun!

Book Buddies

Library: Peoria Main Library

Does your child need help reading? Book Buddies is a program where we pair your child with a teen volunteer to help gain confidence while reading aloud. This program is suited for students in grades K-5.

  • The Book Buddies registration has closed for the 3rd quarter sessions.
  • 4th quarter sessions will be held on Wednesdays, Apr. 8 - May 6, from 4 p.m. - 5 p.m.

Join us as the Arizona Broadway Theatre visits the library with a special performance of Pinkalicious The Musical! Pinkalicious loves pink—pink clothes, pink cupcakes, pink everything. But when she overindulges and wakes up entirely pink, it’s a dream come true… until a trip to the doctor reveals she has a case of Pinkititis! In Pinkalicious the Musical, based on the beloved book by Victoria and Elizabeth Kann, one girl’s colorful cravings lead to a whimsical journey of self-discovery, family support, and learning to embrace what makes us unique.

Drumming for Wellness

Join us for Drumming for Wellness, a free 12-week community drumming series hosted by Drums Are Life LLC! The program will be led by Folade, a Remo Drums Trained HealthRHYTHMS® Facilitator. This uplifting, multigenerational program uses rhythm to support emotional well-being, physical health, creativity, and community connection. Open to participants of all ages and abilities—including older adults, youth, and neurodivergent individuals—each 60-minute session blends rhythmic instruction, group drumming, mindful movement, and reflection in a supportive, inclusive environment. Registration is required.

Pip's 1,000 Book Challenge

Pip's 1,000 book challenge is a fun, independent, and self-paced reading initiative designed to promote a strong literacy foundation in children ages 0-5. Start reading now and read 1,000 books by the time they are school ready and entering kindergarten. Track your progress on our reading logs and earn prizes after 100, 300, 600, and 1,000 books!

Interested in robotics? Join us as Gabriela Gabaldon from Ecorobotik hosts different robotics workshop, where students will discover robotics and its applications. Learners will build a basic electronic circuit and be introduce to the usage of Tinkercad. For kids grades 4 - 8. Registration is required as is a parental consent form.

Sensory Adventures

Library: Peoria Main Library

Parents/guardians, looking for something for the kids to do after school in a nonjudgmental space? Families are invited to join us for various fun and interactive activities every Monday and Thursday starting at 3:30 p.m. All kinds of crafts, STEAM challenges, games, and activities will foster these students' creativity, exploration, and team working skills. All are welcome to these programs, including families with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other sensory needs. Activities will vary from session to session. Please call the library at (623) 773-7578 to find out which activity we will be doing that day.
The Peoria Public Libraries are IBCCES Certified Autism Centers.

Kick off the weekend with Legos! Let your imagination run wild, or complete one of our challenge prompts. Legos will be provided by the library.

Since not everyone thrives in loud, high-energy environments, an adapted room will be available in tandem to provide an inviting space for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other sensory needs.

PAWS 2 Read @ Your Peoria Libraries

PAWS 2 Read is an on-going program which allows children to read aloud to therapy dogs in order to improve reading skills. When children practice reading individually to trained therapy dogs (and their handlers) they become more confident readers, while having fun! After all, a dog will not correct them or make them feel awkward if they stumble.
